Work is underway to establish a quiet zone in downtown Waco. Union Pacific Railroad has started its part of the project, which aims to limit train horn sounding to emergency situations. The quiet zone project is expected to continue into 2028.

By late 2028, trains may only sound their horns in emergency cases, if the project is completed as planned. Further information about the downtown Waco quiet zone project is available from the Waco Tribune-Herald.
